What it’s like to visit a Syrian refugee centre in Istanbul

Visiting the non-for-profit organization Small Projects Istanbul was a humbling experience. Sure in the media we are aware of the horrors of war but what happens to those people who have been lucky to escape after?

This young organization based in Istanbul helps to rebuild the lives of displaced Syrian citizens fleeing Syria. It not only provides education to young children but also helps to empower women in becoming business managers.

This was truly a visit I will never forget.  I met with displaced Syrian citizens retelling their stories about escaping war-torn Syria and what their life is like now living in a new country and surrounded by a new culture.

So what happens on a day to day basis at the centre? Here I recap my visit to the heart of the Capa District in Istanbul to visit Small Projects for Istanbul.
